Equipment

  • Oven
  • 1 baking pan
  • 1 knife
  • 1 small mixing bowl
  • 1 spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf bread (French baguette or Italian bread work well)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3-4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt adjust to your taste

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) and prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or foil.
  • Slice the bread lengthwise and place both halves, cut sides up, on the prepared baking sheet
  • In a medium-sized bowl, thoroughly combine the butter, minced garlic, freshly chopped thyme, and salt until it forms a well-mixed blend.
  • Evenly spread this flavorful mixture over the exposed surfaces of the bread.
  • Place the prepared bread into the preheated oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes or until you notice a slight golden brown color developing along the edges.
  • For a crispier texture, if preferred, bake for an additional 3-5 minutes, monitoring it closely until achieving the desired level of golden brown.
  • If adding cheese (parmesan), consider adding it towards the end of baking to prevent burning or excessive browning.

Notes

Tips Making Garlic Bread:
  • Quality Ingredients: Use fresh and good-quality ingredients. Freshly minced garlic, quality butter, and aromatic herbs like parsley or thyme can significantly enhance the flavor.
  • Even Distribution: Ensure the butter and garlic mixture is spread evenly over the bread to guarantee every bite is packed with flavor. Use a brush or spatula for a consistent spread.
  • Customizations: Feel free to experiment with different herbs (like rosemary or oregano) or cheese variations (mozzarella, parmesan) to suit your taste preferences.
  • Baking Time: Keep an eye on the bread while baking. Golden edges indicate it's ready, but be cautious not to over-bake, as it can result in a dry texture.
