What are tartlets?

Tartlets are miniature, bite-sized versions of savory or sweet tarts. These delightful treats consist of a crisp and flaky pastry crust, typically filled with a variety of delicious ingredients. Whether it’s a savory combination of cheese, vegetables, or meats, or a sweet medley of fruits, custard, or chocolate, tartlets offer a perfect balance of flavors in a compact, handheld form.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup frozen spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Ground pepper, to taste

HOW TO MAKE FETA SPINACH TARTLETS

  1. Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it is fully heated and ready for baking once your tartlets are prepared.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, blend together thawed and drained spinach, crumbled feta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, and mayonnaise. Stir thoroughly until all components are uniformly combined. Season with ground pepper according to your taste preference.
  3. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Slice the pastry into petite squares that match the dimensions of the muffin tin holes.
  4. Poke holes: Poke some holes in the bottom of each pastry square with a fork to keep them from puffing up too much during baking. This helps release steam and maintains the tartlet shells’ shape.
  5. Assemble the Tartlets: Scoop the spinach and feta mix into each puff pastry cup, making sure it’s evenly spread. Be generous with the filling but leave a small space around the edges.
  6. Bake to Perfection:Put the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry becomes golden brown, and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the tartlets to cool for a few minutes before carefully removing them from the muffin tin.

How to Serve Feta Spinach Tartlets:

  • Warm: Serve them warm straight from the oven for a comforting and savory experience.
  • Room temperature: They also taste great at room temperature, making them suitable for parties or gatherings where you may not have the option to keep them warm.

When to Serve Feta Spinach Tartlets:

  1. Appetizers: Ideal for cocktail parties, family gatherings, or any event where you want to offer a tasty and easy-to-eat appetizer.
  2. Brunch: Serve these tartlets as part of a brunch spread, alongside other breakfast or brunch items.
  3. Picnics: Tartlets are easy to transport, making them a great addition to a picnic basket or outdoor gathering.
  4. Potlucks: Bring them to potluck dinners or contribute them to a buffet-style event. They are easy to share and can be enjoyed at room temperature.
  5. Holiday Gatherings: Feta spinach tartlets can be a festive addition to holiday parties and celebrations.
  6. Lunch or Light Dinner: Pair with a side salad for a light and satisfying lunch or dinner option.
  7. Anytime Snack: Enjoy them as a tasty and portable snack any time of the day.

Tips:

  • Preparation Ahead of Time:
    • You can prepare the tartlets ahead of time and reheat them in the oven just before serving.
    • If making for a party, consider making mini tartlets for easy and mess-free consumption.
  • Customization:
    • Feel free to customize the tartlets with additional ingredients like sun-dried tomatoes, olives, or caramelized onions to suit your taste.

By considering these factors, you can serve your feta spinach tartlets in a way that suits the occasion and enhances the overall dining experience.

To store feta spinach tartlets:

  1. Refrigeration: Store leftovers in the fridge promptly, either in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in plastic.
  2. Short-Term: For short-term use (1-2 days), keep them in the refrigerator.
  3. Long-Term: If storing for a longer period, freeze them by placing on a baking sheet until solid, then transferring to a freezer-safe container. Label with the date for up to 2-3 months.
  4. Reheating: When ready to eat, reheat in the oven for best texture. Thaw frozen tartlets in the fridge before reheating to avoid sogginess.
  5. Separation: If layered, store crust and filling separately to prevent sogginess.

Following these steps will help maintain the freshness and flavor of your tartlets.
